Dr. Martin Glynn

Dr Martin Glynn is an experienced and internationally renowned criminologist, educator, theatre director, and dramatist with over 35 years’ experience of working in criminal justice, public health, and educational settings. He has a Cert. Ed, a Master’s degree in criminal justice policy and practice, and gained his PhD at Birmingham City University in Feb 2013 where he is currently a lecturer in criminology.

In Jan 2010 Dr Glynn was awarded a Winston Churchill International Travel Fellowship where he spent several weeks in the city of Baltimore and Johns Hopkins University (USA) looking at issues of fatherlessness, father hunger, and father deficit amongst young black men. In 2012 Dr Glynn received the prestigious ‘Pol-Roger’ award from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust for outstanding service to the field of ‘Society and the Citizen’.

In Oct of the same year Martin was also awarded a prestigious local heroes award by ‘The Association of Jamaica Nationals’ (Birmingham).

As a writer Dr Glynn’s book ‘Black Men, Invisibility, and Desistance from crime: Towards a Critical Race Theory from Crime’, was published by Routledge (Dec 2013). As a writer Dr Glynn has written for BBC 1’s Casualty, BBC Radio 4, published many poetry books, alongside a growing reputation as an author of children’s books. Dr Glynn is the founder and creative director of PLATFORM - ‘Data Verbalization Lab’ which is a ground breaking and innovative approach to presenting research data using performance techniques. Dr Glynn is also the creator of MARVIN’S GARDEN, an interactive story making game.

Dr Glynn’s book ‘Black Men, Invisibility, and Desistance from crime: Towards a Critical Race Theory from Crime’, was published by Routledge (Dec 2013).
